Best ways to wash TENCEL™ Lyocell bedding
What are the best ways to wash TENCEL™ Lyocell bedding? TENCEL™ is still a relatively unknown fibre for many. Fortunately, more and more people are discovering all the special properties of this exceptionally durable material and how comfortable it is to sleep on it. But how should you wash your lyocell eucalyptus bedding? How do you keep the material beautiful for as long as possible? Read the care and washing instructions to keep your bedding clean and beautiful.
What is TENCEL™?
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are made from sustainable eucalyptus trees that are certified and controlled in Europe. TENCEL™ fibers are produced by the Austria-based Lenzing Group. This company has been known for many years for its ambition to develop ecological and sustainable fabrics from eucalyptus wood. It has built up a good reputation in the textile industry, partly due to sustainable planetfriendly production from start to finish. The wood pulp is transformed into cellulose fibers from which the fabric is made with an extremely low ecological impact. The material is known for its comfort and luxurious appearance and produces top quality bedding. Lyocell duvet covers and fitted sheets are strong, breathable, temperature-regulating, absorb moisture and are extremely soft on the skin.
wash instructions
It is a silky soft material. We simply love it! But it is important to handle it delicately to extend its lifespan as much as possible. It is best to wash TENCEL™ sheets at a low temperature, in a laundry bag. Washing at 30 degrees is sufficient, if necessary at 40 degrees occasionally to wash away grease stains. The material has a luxurious shine, which becomes less shiny with use. After washing, the bedding may feel a bit stiffer. Don’t worry though, this is completely normal. It will become soft and subtle again during drying.
1. Wash, if possible inside out, at a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius
2. Select a short washing program (±1 hour). Believe us, this washes just as well and is better for the fabric and the environment
3. Use a laundry bag to keep the fabric nice and protect it from friction during washing
4. Do not overload the machine
5. Use mild liquid wool & fine detergent. The use of fabric softener is not necessary
6. Use little detergent for optimal color retention. Avoid any detergent with chlorine or bleach as this can damage the fabric
7. Wash separately from other materials and colors
Can I tumble dry?
We recommend drying your bedding naturally on the washing line. This is not only better for the fabric but also for the environment. The less often you put your TENCEL™ bedding in the dryer, the better for the fabric. This extends its lifespan. If you still want to use the dryer, you may use the short ‘low heat’ program.
Can I iron TENCEL™?
Yes the fabric is strong enough. You can iron it at medium temperature. No time to iron but still want to reduce the wrinkles? Set the centrifugation at a low speed. Do not overfill the machine and hang out your bedding right after washing. Another tip: put the (still slightly wrinkled) TENCEL™ bedding on the bed and use a hand steamer. It is an easy way to remove the visible wrinkles and it saves you a lot of ironing time.
