* Yes, there is definitely a much more sustainable and eco-friendly alternative than eco-cotton or bamboo bedding! TENCEL™ bedding is one of the most sustainable fabrics in the world. It is 100% biodegradable. TENCEL™ bedding is also completely vegan and animal friendly.
* TENCEL™ is made from wood chips from eucalyptus trees. The eucalyptus trees, which are used are carefully selected and remain traceable. This is much more sustainable than growing cotton plants. For example, cotton uses much more pesticides. Organic cotton is already better than the regular kind. However, growing eucalyptus trees requires up to about 85% less water than cotton plants. Whether that’s organic or regular cotton doesn’t matter. And the very necessity of the gigantically high water consumption to produce (organic) cotton is what many people do not realize.
* A “closed loop system” can be used to produce TENCEL™. This means that at least 99% of the chemicals are reused. Unlike cotton production or for making bamboo bedding, this ‘closed loop system’ ensures that no chemicals are released into nature.
* Eucalyptus forests can grow anywhere. So you see them in many parts of the world, in Australia, Europe, Asia. The great thing is that the trees can grow well even on infertile land. In addition, the eucalyptus trees used to make TENCEL™ are managed sustainably. Specifically, this means that it is always carefully considered where and which trees can be used. New trees are planted in a timely manner. The TENCEL™ brand carries the FSC label (Forest Stewardship Council, the international label for sustainable wood).
