Why washing your TENCEL bedding in a laundry bag is an excellent idea

For those of you who have never used a laundry bag or wash bag before, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about. But if you’ve ever had your new favourite sheets wrapped around a button or got a hole in your new duvet cover caused by a zipper – then please read on! This simply could have been avoided with a zipped wash bag.

While washing machines have come a long way in terms of taking good and easy care of your delicate fabrics, we still cannot control what happens to your items during a washing cycle. A washing machine cycle inevitably causes more friction between fabrics than a hand wash would, so washing your delicate TENCEL™ bedding and towels can be even riskier.

Fortunately there is good news: a zipped wash bag is the perfect laundry aid for protecting your delicate TENCEL™ Lyocell fabrics from snags, pulls or distortion during the wash cycle. It is an effective and easy way of reducing stress on your TENCEL™ Lyocell fabrics. The bags provide a protective layer between the items contained within them and the other items in the washing machine. By using a laundry bag you will extend the life of your sheets by preventing them getting tangled with other items and potentially damaged. It can save your silky sheets from a lot of harm, while also giving them a good wash.

More tips to protect your TENCEL™ bedding and towels
Your delicate TENCEL™ Lyocell items deserve special care, and we have more useful tips to make you extend the life of your favourite sheets and towels. Using a bleach-free detergent that is designed to protect the fabric fibres is a good way to maintain the quality of your fabric. If available use the detergent that is specially developed for that particular colour (white, black or coloured fabrics).

Also make sure you turn the duvet covers and pillowcases inside out before putting them in the laundry bag.

Alongside the detergent and turning your bedding inside out, reducing the number of times you wash your sheets is another easy way to extend the life of your bedding. TENCEL™ Lyocell is hypoallergenic and does not need to be washed as often as for example cotton or bamboo bedding. Your sheets stay fresh twice as long.

How to use a laundry bag
Using a zipped laundry bag is simple. Whenever you have precious TENCEL™ Lyocell fabrics, just put them in the laundry bag (preferably turn them inside out), zip it up and put on a cold to low heat washing cycle. The protective zip cover prevents the zip from opening, keeping the sheets securely inside the laundry bag at all times. And remember, the colder and gentler the washing cycle, the better for your sheets. It also saves you energy and money!
