Using TENCEL™ towels in your daily self-care routine is a small luxury with big benefits. More and more people are discovering the unique properties of this plant-based, sustainable material. These towels feel incredibly soft, dry quickly, and are naturally antibacterial—making them a smart and skin-friendly choice for every bathroom. But how do you properly take care for lyocell towels to keep them looking and feeling their best? In this blog, we share our favorite care tips so you can enjoy your plastic-free, eco-luxe towels for years to come.

What Is TENCEL™?

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are derived from sustainably grown eucalyptus trees, primarily harvested in Europe. The production is managed by the Austrian company Lenzing Group, internationally recognized for its eco-conscious innovations in textile manufacturing. The eucalyptus wood is transformed into fibers through a closed-loop process that reuses water and solvents, minimizing environmental impact. The result? A luxurious and durable fabric that’s ideal for towels—super soft, strong, antibacterial, and highly moisture-absorbent. It’s everything you want from bath textiles: quick-drying, skin-friendly, and better for the planet.

How to Wash TENCEL™ Towels

To maintain the softness, absorbency, and color of your TENCEL™ towels, it’s important to wash them with care. While lyocell is a strong natural fiber, it deserves a gentle touch to preserve its quality. Here are our care tips for your TENCEL™ bath towels:

1. Wash at a maximum of 40°C (104°F). This temperature is ideal for removing dirt and stains without damaging the delicate plant-based fibers.

2. Choose a short, gentle cycle (around one hour). It’s kinder to the environment and to your towels—less energy, less wear.

3. Use a laundry bag. A mesh laundry bag protects the fine fibers from friction, helping your towels last longer.

4. Avoid overloading your washing machine. Give your towels space to move freely. This improves cleaning efficiency and reduces wear and tear.

5. Use a mild, liquid detergent. Opt for a detergent designed for delicate or wool fabrics. Avoid fabric softeners—TENCEL™ is naturally soft and doesn’t need any extras.

6. Use minimal detergent and never bleach. Too much detergent can leave residue in the fibers. Harsh chemicals like chlorine or bleach can weaken the fabric and should always be avoided.

7. Wash with similar soft fabrics. Skip zippers, velcro, and heavy materials like denim, which can damage your towels during the wash cycle.

Can You Tumble Dry TENCEL™ Towels?

Air drying is the best option for extending the life of your towels and reducing your environmental footprint. However, if you prefer using a dryer, go for a short cycle on low heat. The less you tumble dry, the longer your TENCEL™ towels will stay soft, fluffy, and beautiful.
